FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to cardiology, and can be used to determine the probability of the presence of vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques in coronary arteries in patients with acute coronary syndrome. Blood serum of a patient with acute coronary syndrome, which has not reached the target level of low-density lipoproteins (up to 1.4 mmol/l), is analysed for the level of inflammation and matrix remodelling biomarkers: galectin-3, matrix metalloproteinase type 9 (MMP-9), tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase type 1 (TIMP-1), lipocalin associated with neutrophil gelatinase (NGAL). That is followed by calculating the probability of the presence of vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques. If the result is more than or equal to 48%, a high risk of detecting vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques is determined, and if the result is less than 48%, a low risk of detecting vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques is determined.
EFFECT: method provides controlling the progression of coronary atherosclerosis, optimizing the methods of preventing cardiovascular risks and enables adjusting the optimal drug therapy in the patients with acute IHD by calculating the probability of detecting vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques.
