FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 1-(2-amino-4-nitrophenyl)-2-R-benzimidazoles , where R = a) H, b) CH3. Method involves selective reduction of nitro group in position 2 in 1-(2,4-dinitrophenyl)-2-R-benzimidazole with titanium (III) chloride, wherein reduction is carried out in 31% hydrochloric acid at 30 °C for 5 minutes and molar ratio of 1-(2,4-dinitrophenyl)-2-R-benzimidazole : TiCl3 = 1:6.1.
EFFECT: development of an efficient method of producing 1-(2-amino-4-nitrophenyl)-2-R-benzimidazoles with high output, which does not require the use of a binary mixture of solvents, enables to reduce reaction time and selectively reduce one of two nitro groups in a substrate, namely in position 2.
