FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of benzimidazole chemistry, namely to a method for synthesis of 1-(2-aminophenyl)-5-nitrobenzimidazole. Method involves single reduction of a nitro group in position 2 in 1-(2-aminophenyl)-5-nitrobenzimidazole with titanium (III) chloride in 31% hydrochloric acid at 30 °C for 5 minutes and molar ratio 1-(2-aminophenyl)-5-nitrobenzimidazole: TiCl3 = 1:6.1 and isomerisation, which is carried out after adding to reaction mass 70% aqueous solution of i-PrOH by heating mixture at 80 °C for 4 hours.
EFFECT: one-pot method of producing 1-(2-aminophenyl)-5-nitrobenzimidazole with high selectivity is developed.
