SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mining and can be used in assessing the safety of undermining of water bodies, water-bearing horizons, flooded mine workings, as well as forecasting the gas situation in mines. Invention can also be used for environmental assessments of safe mining operations. Method of determining height of zone of technogenic cracks above area of extraction of minerals includes laying of profile line on surface of mine field above area of mining operations. Gas-chemical survey is carried out along the laid profile line, the content of radioactive gases radon and thoron in the soil air is determined, the obtained data are used to determine the depth h (m) to the source of emission of these gases in the rock mass and the height of the zone of technogenic cracks above the area of extraction of minerals Hztc (m). Hztc is defined as the difference Hztc=H-h, where H is depth to the area of extraction of minerals, m.
EFFECT: reduced costs and faster determination of the height of the zone of technogenic cracks above the area of mining.
