FIELD: physics; electricity.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of monitoring the resource of a varistor, comprising steps of determining the current flowing through the varistor and determining the resource used by the varistor on the basis of a certain current flowing through the varistor. Distinctive feature is the use of a coefficient having an increasing dependence of the value on the current strength when determining the resource developed by the varistor. Invention also relates to a varistor resource monitoring device comprising a current sensor, an analogue-to-digital converter and a computing device and which implements the above described method of monitoring the varistor resource.
EFFECT: higher accuracy of estimating the exhausted and/or remaining life of a varistor.
