The method for monitoring the varistor resource contains the steps at which the value of the current flowing through the varistor is determined, the voltage across the varistor is determined by the current-voltage characteristic of the varistor, the energy absorbed by the varistor is determined by integrating the value of the current flowing through the varistor multiplied by the value of the voltage across the varistor. The varistor resource monitoring device comprises a current sensor, an analog-to-digital converter and a computing device that implements the above-described method for monitoring the varistor resource.
EFFECT: improving the accuracy of estimating the depleted and/or residual life of the varistor.
