FIELD: biotechnology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to biotechnology. Invention discloses a carbohydrate-binding protein C1q-domain-containing protein from the marine bivalve mollusk Modiolus kurilensis (MkC1qDC) with the amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO.1 and a method for isolation thereof. Hemolymph is obtained from sea bivalve mollusk Modiolus kurilensis. Plasma is separated from cell fraction. Enriched fraction is obtained from cell-free hemolymph by salting out with ammonium sulphate. Obtained fraction has the highest hemagglutinating activity, which is effectively inhibited by acidic derivatives of galactose and mannose, including their oligomeric and polymer forms. Purified carbohydrate-recognizing protein MkC1qDC is then recovered by affinity chromatography with immobilized glycans containing acidic derivatives of galactose or mannose.

EFFECT: carbohydrate-binding protein MkC1qDC from Modiolus kurilensis bivalve exhibits antibacterial properties with respect to gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms.
