FIELD: measuring.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of monitoring the state of metal products. Before use of the product, a site is prepared for taking measurements of the hardness of the material, over the entire area of which serial measurements of hardness are randomly performed by exposing the surface to an indenter in an amount of at least 200 measurements, according to the hardness measurement results, determining the hardness statistical dispersion value and the structural entropy value by the formula, which are taken as the initial values, further, during operation, serial measurements of hardness are periodically performed for the selected site by exposing the surface to an indenter in an amount of not less than 200 measurements, the value of statistical dispersion of hardness is determined from the results of hardness measurements, if the value of dispersion has increased compared to the initial value, then the value of structural entropy for the current state is determined, after which the change in relative structural entropy is determined, from which the limiting state is determined.

EFFECT: operational diagnostics of metal articles for determination of their pre-defect and limiting state using exclusively durometric analysis.
