FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to ultrasound diagnostics, neurology, and can be used for diagnosing pathological changes of peripheral nerves in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Method involves application of multidimensional ultrasonic shear wave elastography, which measures peripheral nerve stiffness S (kPa). B-mode ultrasound is used to measure the cross-sectional area of the peripheral nerve of the CSA (mm2). Coefficient of "ultrasonic evaluation of peripheral nerve" of the sciatic and tibial nerves is calculated by the formula UPN = S/CSA. If the value of the UPN of the sciatic nerve is more than 0.75 or the value of the UPN of the tibial nerve is more than 0.67, the presence of ultrasonic signs characteristic of diabetic polyneuropathy is stated.
EFFECT: method enables detecting changes in the peripheral nerves of the lower extremities in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus, which are characteristic of diabetic polyneuropathy by determining the UPN coefficient.
