FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, particularly to neurosurgery, clinical neurophysiology. It can be used in intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring based on quadripolar transcranial electrical stimulation (quadri-TES) in surgical management of tumours of the caudal spinal cord. Method involves transcranial electrical stimulation of the corticospinal tract with the help of subdermal corkscrew-shaped electrodes located on the scalp. Registering pairs of subdermal needle electrodes are inserted through the skin in the muscles of the external anal sphincter on both sides of the median suture of the perineum. Propofol is used as intravenous anaesthesia. Transcranial electrical stimulation is performed with sequence of 5 stimuli, the duration of which is 200 mcs, the interstimulus interval is 4 ms, the electric voltage is 60-150 V.
EFFECT: method enables minimizing the risks of developing pelvic dysfunctions in the outcome of surgical management of tumours of the caudal spinal cord.
