FIELD: ammunition.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hard-alloy cores of armor-piercing bullets for small arms cartridges. Hard alloy core for small arms cartridges contains tail part in form of truncated cone, larger diameter of which is equal to the diameter of the base of the cone of the head part, has a chamfer at the end of the tail part equal to 0.15–0.40 mm, and a head conical part with a pointed vertex, hard alloy of the core contains tungsten carbide by weight of 88–98%, the rest is cobalt, and has ultimate bending strength of not less than 1,475 MPa. Core length is equal to 2.70–2.79 d, where d is bullet caliber, head part has taper C = 0.523–0.785 with cone height (0.94–1.37)d, pointed vertex has conjugation with cone surface, rounding with radius R of not more than 0.6 mm, with vertex cut S of not more than 1.1 mm, larger diameter D of truncated cone is equal to (0.732–0.734)d, smaller diameter D1 of the tail part is less than the larger diameter by 0.15–0.36 mm. Core weight is equal to 2.15–2.35 g, hardness of core has hardness within 86–93 HRA, compressive strength within 2,000–4,500 MPa, stress intensity factor K1c = 6–12 MPa·m1/2. Surfaces of the core have roughness in the range of Ra = 0.6–1.6 mcm, roughness is obtained by vibration tumbling.
EFFECT: increased durability and penetrating action of hard-alloy core at penetration of armor and accuracy of fire during firing.
