FIELD: measuring.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for estimating fineness of bast fibre. Essence of the invention consists in the fact that a fibrous sample is formed, analysed by optical microscopy and a black-and-white digital image is processed, followed by evaluation of the fineness of the fibre presented on the image in the form of black objects, by determining the arithmetic mean of their width in different zones along the length of the fibres, at that, when forming a fibrous sample, the fibres are laid out on the object table with their possible intersection relative to each other, the fibres width is determined in steps, at the first stage, a topological skeleton of the fibres presented in the form of black objects is built, and detected are places and centres of their intersection relative to each other, at the second stage of determining the width at the centre of each intersection of black objects, part of their images is removed with an area equal to the area of a circle of minimum radius containing the entire area of intersection, further, in the remaining part of the black objects, the double shortest distances from the skeleton line to their edges Di are determined in different zones of their length, and the arithmetic mean of the distances Di is taken as the fineness of the fibre, wherein said values Di are used to calculate coefficient of variation of fibre thickness.

EFFECT: providing the possibility of increasing measurement accuracy and reducing duration of analyses.
