FIELD: performing operations.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of joining materials with an electron beam and can be used primarily for production of welded thin-walled pipes from steels and alloys, including dissimilar ones. After assembly of butt and preliminary compression of welded edges of pipes in elastic area of deformation there performed is multipass heating of edges with melting of at least one edge by electron beam in vacuum and pipes upsetting. Edges are heated at rotation of pipes at a rate providing formation of a weld pool along the whole perimeter of the butt due to uniform distribution of temperature along its cross-section. Value of preliminary compression of welded edges is selected to ensure upsetting when penetration of the butt through its entire thickness is achieved with displacement of molten metal from the butt and plastic deformation of pipe edges with formation of a weld.
EFFECT: high uniformity of heating and melting of welded edges over the entire area of the butt in a wide range of control of heat input parameters.
