TUBE ELECTRON-BEAM WELDING METHOD Russian patent published in 2005 - IPC

Abstract RU 2259906 C1

FIELD: electron beam welding of tubes of chemically active metals such as zirconium, titanium, possibly manufacture of ducts for central zone of nuclear reactor, welding tubes in chemical industry.

SUBSTANCE: electron beam welding is realized at providing electron beam oscillations along butt and across it. Electron beam is focused till diameter of heating spot no more than 1.2 mm and it is subjected to oscillation at frequency no more than 30 osc/s along path in the form of semi-ellipse. Lengthwise axis of semi-ellipse is arranged along butt. Length of cross axis of semi-ellipse is set equal to thickness of tube wall in butt place. Motion path of heating spot in the form of ellipse allows form welded seam with cast zone whose width is no more than doubled thickness of tube wall in welding place.

EFFECT: lowered width of near-seam zones, enhanced strength and corrosion resistance properties of welded joint of tubes.
