A humidifier system for use in medical procedures, comprising a housing configured to accommodate a humidifier chamber and a multilayer heating plate. A respiratory or surgical humidifier system comprising a main unit including a heating plate containing at least one heating element, a hardware control device in electronic communication with at least one heating element of the heating plate, a humidifier chamber defining a volume and containing a conductive base, the humidifier chamber is configured to maintain the water level. A method for detecting a low water level condition or lack of water in a humidifier chamber of a respiratory or surgical humidifier system using a hardware control device in the main unit of a respiratory or surgical humidifier system.

EFFECT: detection of a state of lack of water and/or output of a warning about the lack of water in the humidifier chamber in the presence of input signals from a minimum number of sensors.
