FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: reassorted salmon infectious anaemia (ISA) virus is described for protection against ISA virus infection, comprising genome segments 1-8, where at least one genome segment relates to genotype I and at least one genome segment relates to genotype II and where genome segment 6 relates to genotype II. Also described is a vaccine composition for vaccination of fish against ISA virus, containing said re-assorted ISA virus. In addition, disclosed is a method of producing a reassorted virus ISA, comprising steps of infecting a host culture with a strain of ISA virus genotype I and a strain of ISA virus genotype II; cultivating a host culture to obtain a reassorted ISAV virus and determining whether the reassorted ISAV virus has a genotype II segment 6 and at least one other genotype I segment. Disclosed is a method of culturing a reassorted ISA virus, comprising (i) infecting a culture host with the reassorted virus; (ii) culturing the host from step (i) to obtain an additional virus.
EFFECT: invention enables growing the virus on suspension cells in a serum-free medium and provides protection against ISAV infection.
