Patient undergoes computed tomography of the chest, determining the volume of each lung, calculating the asymmetry coefficient of lung volumes. If Klas is more than 1.23, a decrease in the volume of the left lung is determined. If Klas is less than 1.1, a decrease in the volume of the right lung is determined. If Klas, from 1.23 to 1.1, physiological asymmetry is determined.

EFFECT: method enables assessing the severity of the thoracic insufficiency syndrome and assessing the dynamics of lung volume ratios after spinal and sternocostal surgery by determining the lung volume asymmetry coefficient.
