FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry and dyes technology. Method of producing fluorescent dye based on 5-(4-aminophenyl)-2,2'-bipyridine is characterized by mixing 5-(4-nitrophenyl)-2,2'-bipyridine, methanol and tetrahydrofuran, the obtained mixture is mixed with a palladium carbon catalyst and reduced while stirring in a hydrogen atmosphere at room temperature. Mixed solution is filtered and the solvents are removed to obtain a fluorescent dye.

EFFECT: method of producing the desired dye, which enables to identify gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
