FIELD: radar.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radar and can be used to estimate a two-dimensional spatial spectrum for one object of observation in a range resolution element using a MIMO antenna array. Method for estimating a two-dimensional spatial spectrum of a MIMO antenna array, the virtual aperture of which is formed by a given configuration of receiving and transmitting elements with one object in a resolution element based on the Beam Scan algorithm, consists in the fact that among the elements of the virtual aperture of the MIMO antenna array two groups are selected, the locations of the elements of the first group correspond to the coordinates of the transmitting elements, location of elements of second group – coordinates of receiving elements, for each selected group of elements according to the classical Beam Scan algorithm, a two-dimensional spatial spectrum is calculated, by multiplying two obtained two-dimensional spatial spectra with each other, a spatial spectrum which is identical to the spatial spectrum from the entire virtual aperture of the MIMO antenna array is obtained.

EFFECT: possibility of estimating a two-dimensional spatial spectrum of a MIMO antenna array, which does not require processing of signals of all elements of its virtual aperture, which allows to reduce the number of mathematical operations required for its calculation.
