FIELD: measuring.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to oil and gas geological investigations and can be used in assessing the age and composition of sedimentary cover rocks in poorly studied sedimentary basins of the Arctic region (Arctic shelf) based on results of shallow stratigraphic drilling. Method of estimating the age and composition of rocks of sedimentary basins in the Arctic region in the investigated area within the sea water area includes five stages. At the first stage, all available geological and geophysical data on the water area, including bathymetric map and ice situation maps, are collected and summarized. After that, within the boundaries of the investigated area, a marine seismic survey is carried out, based on the obtained time seismic profiles based on the results of the seismic survey, the target reflecting horizons are correlated and structural maps and thickness maps are plotted. At the second stage, zones within the boundaries of the investigated section available for offshore shallow stratigraphic drilling and coordinates of candidate wells are determined. Thereafter, candidate wells are ranked, while priority wells for drilling are defined as candidate wells that meet certain criteria. At the third stage, after selection of candidate wells based on seismic data, high-frequency seismoacoustic survey is carried out. Results of high-frequency seismoacoustic survey are used to correct the number and geographical coordinates of shallow stratigraphic wells-candidates, obtained at the second stage, excluding coordinates of wells characterized by seismic anomalies of the wave field, potentially associated with hazardous geological processes and phenomena. At that, statistical data for last 10 years on natural and climatic conditions of the region of works are taken into account: wind speed not more than 25 m/s and wave height not more than 3 m. At the fourth stage, the coordinates obtained at the third stage are used to drill offshore shallow stratigraphic wells with simultaneous sampling of core material and conducting geophysical surveys of wells (GSW) using vertical seismic profiling (VSP) and thermometry. At the fifth stage, laboratory-analytical studies of core material are performed with determination of age and composition of rocks opened in drilled shallow stratigraphic wells.

EFFECT: proposed invention provides the necessary and sufficient complex of investigations to obtain data from which a conclusion can be made on the age and composition of rocks of the sedimentary basin in the Arctic region within the water area, where the age of the sedimentary cover has not been reliably established.
