FIELD: performing operations.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to contact welding, particularly, to butt welding of rail or other rails with raised insert. In the method of butt welding of rails with relief inserts, each relief insert is made in the form of a bracket from a steel sheet with thickness of 1 mm to 3 mm with horizontally bent upper and lower flanges. Vertical wall of each relief insert is made wavy with wave height from base to crest up to 2 mm and wave pitch up to 8 mm. Said raised inserts are installed on the ends of the rails so that the crests of waves of the embossed inserts are in contact with each other, melted during the welding process and then removed from the contact zone by pressing, wherein liquidus temperature of steel material of sheets of relief inserts is selected higher than liquidus temperature of rail material. Final upsetting of rails is performed when melting temperature of raised inserts is achieved.
EFFECT: providing stability of relief inserts in welding zone, reducing time of technological process of welding, increasing resistance of rail joint against dynamic action of wheels of rolling stock.
