FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to analytical chemistry and can be used to determine trace amounts of europium when analysing high-purity lanthanides. Lanthanide oxides pre-calcined for one hour in a muffle furnace at temperature of 650–700 °C is cooled in a desiccator. Weighed portion of oxides is treated with hydrochloric acid and H2O 2 according to calculations of their concentration making 10-3–10-5 M. Obtained solution is evaporated. Dry residue is dissolved in distilled water. To the obtained solution containing lanthanide chlorides, an organic reagent (R) is added, in the form of cyprolet, with molar ratio Eu:R = 1:2 and pH = 7.5 ± 0.1. Solution containing the formed luminescent complex of europium is then irradiated with UV light and a red luminescence characteristic of europium ions is observed. Lower limit of detection of Eu in the complex with ciprole is 4.4⋅10-7 g/ml Eu.
EFFECT: method provides high selectivity and sensitivity.
