FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to analytical chemistry and can be used to determine trace amounts of europium when analysing high-purity lanthanides. Europium oxide pre-calcined for one hour in a muffle furnace at temperature of 650–700 °C is cooled in a desiccator. Weighed portion of oxide according to calculations of its concentration of 10−3–10–5 M is treated with hydrochloric acid and H2O2. Obtained solution is evaporated. Dry residue is dissolved in water. Organic reagent R is added to the obtained solution, which contains ofloxacin (OF), with molar ratio Eu:R = 2:3 and pH = 9.8 ± 0.1. Solution containing the formed luminescent complex of europium is then irradiated with UV light at λ = 614 nm and a red luminescence characteristic of europium ions is observed. Lower limit of detection of europium in a complex with OF is 7.5⋅10−7 g/ml Eu.
EFFECT: method provides high selectivity and sensitivity.
