FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to Earth remote sensing systems. Disclosed multi-position MIMO synthetic aperture radar consists of a group of small spacecraft (SSC) moving in a low earth orbit at the same speed at a fixed equal distance from each other. Each SSC comprises a radio transmitting and a radio receiving part in the form of a single-channel transceiver capable of generating a phase-shift keyed quasi-orthogonal signal, and receiving signals of all SSC reflected from the Earth, an antenna for capturing a common observation area of a MIMO radar on the surface of the Earth, storage device and radio equipment for arrangement of two-way communication and synchronization of radiation and reception of signals of all SSC radar. Data on reflected signals of the SSC are transmitted to a ground terminal, which performs correlation processing, focusing and synthesis of the radar image using the principles of MIMO technology.
EFFECT: high information content of images, reduced complexity of developing and manufacturing transceiving equipment, high fault-tolerance.
