FIELD: computer engineering.

SUBSTANCE: disclosed result is achieved due to a computer-implemented method of protecting data displayed on the screen of a computing device (CD), executed by a processor and comprising steps of: generating a digital mark (DM) in the form of a data unit containing encoded information at least identifying the user of the CD, wherein the information is encoded in a quaternary number system, where each symbol from "0" to "3" corresponds to a graphic element in the form of a line located at a given angle to the orthogonal coordinate axis, and the beginning of the data unit is encoded as crossing lines; forming a protective layer consisting of a set of said data units, covering at least a portion of the display area of the CD screen, wherein colour and transparency of DM are determined and protective layer is applied on display area of CD screen.

EFFECT: high efficiency of the method of protecting digital data on device screens due to high stability of digital marks when forming a protective layer.
