FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to rolling stock location. Method for positioning and determining orientation of rail transport using information on track map in arched-linear form is that a digital map of rail transport route, which is a linear-arched spline, is preliminarily composed, which is recorded in form of text file in memory of computing unit installed in rail vehicle, besides, data on GPS transducer position in rail transport and linear characteristics of rail transport dimensions are recorded in computer memory. At the moment of the rail vehicle movement from the GPS sensor, the computing unit receives information about the GPS satellite signal level and coordinates for calculating the distance from the beginning of the spline to the projection of the point of the rail vehicle position on the spline, then based on obtained projection of point of position of tram on spline by a given algorithm calculating angle of orientation of tram.
EFFECT: high accuracy of positioning and determining orientation of rail transport.
