SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of determining the location of railway rolling stock. The device contains a receiver mounted on a rail transport unit, connected to a computing unit to which a memory module with an electronic route map recorded in it is connected, a contactless current meter with a transmitter connected to it is rigidly fixed on the axis of the wheelset of a mobile the rail transport unit, which is connected to the receiver input via a radio channel, the output of the computing unit is the output of the device. Positioning is carried out based on the analysis of the measured parameters of the current flowing along the rails and the wheelset of the rail transport unit, with the calculation of the current location coordinates of the unit within the railway section of a known length.

EFFECT: improved positioning accuracy is achieved throughout the entire section of the railway without the formation and transmission of additional signals to the rail line.
