FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of multilayer coating for cutting tool by vacuum-plasma application. Lower layer of nitride of niobium, titanium and silicon compound and upper layer of niobium nitride are applied. Coating layers are applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane. First and the second cathodes are made of niobium and located opposite to each other, and the third cathode is made of titanium and silicon alloy and located between them. Lower layer is applied using all three cathodes, and upper layer – using first and second cathodes.
EFFECT: increasing the wear resistance of cutting tools.
