FIELD: metalworking.
SUBSTANCE: method for producing a multilayer coating for a cutting tool. A bottom layer of niobium-chromium compound nitride and a top layer of niobium nitride are applied. The application of coating layers is carried out by three cathodes located horizontally in one plane. The first and second cathodes are made of niobium and are located opposite to each other. The third cathode is made of chromium and placed between them. The bottom layer is applied using three cathodes, and the top layer is applied using the first and second cathodes.
EFFECT: improving the performance of the cutting tool.
