FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in medicine in treating gunshot, burn and purulent wounds, as well as for purifying drinking water from bacteria. Method of producing an adsorbent with antibacterial properties based on bentonite clay involves modifying clay in a solution containing silver ions and drying the ready material. Clay is modified with spent acidic photographic fixing solution with weight ratio clay : fixing solution 1:8-150 with successive addition of 4-8 ml of not less than 10 vol.% aqueous ammonia solution, 5-10 ml of not less than 40 wt.% aqueous solution of NaOH, 5-10 ml of not less than 22 wt.% aqueous solution of saccharose. Mixture is then heated on a boiling water bath for not less than 20 minutes. Released black precipitate is filtered, dried at room temperature and ground in a ball mill to particle size of 250-500 nm.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain an adsorbent capable of inhibiting growth of Escherichia coli, eliminate irretrievable loss of silver and nitrates by recycling spent acidic fixing photographic solutions, prevent contamination of washing water with silver ions and nitrate ions.
