FIELD: measuring.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of oceanographic research, in particular to acoustic methods and devices for measuring and recording a three-dimensional pattern of currents in a stratified marine environment, as well as characteristics of surface waves on a coastal water area. Obtaining information is provided according to the "bottom-up" monostatic echolocation scheme with polyharmonic ultrasonic signals, which are generated in the aquatic environment using the nonlinear acoustics effects when using antenna devices mounted on the investigated water area bottom specified section. Invention can be used in hydroacoustics and oceanography. Invention can be used on a coastal water area to study dynamics of change: 1) parameters of currents in the volume of a stratified aqueous medium due to reflection and scattering of ultrasonic waves from k layers of scatterers (bubbles, suspended particles, plankton, various inhomogeneities, etc., passively carried by currents of the water mass), having both an “individual” distribution density in given irradiation areas, and neutral buoyancy, 2) characteristics of hydraulic conditions (general direction of run of surface wave, its amplitude and wavelength, etc.).
EFFECT: disclosed is an acoustic method for investigating the velocity field of currents and sea waves on a coastal water area.
