SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing derivatives of 9-[hydroxy(pentafluorophenyl)methyl]-1H-benzo[f]isoindole-4-carboxylic acids of general formula:

,

involving reaction of N-[(2E)-3-phenylprop-2-en-1-yl]aniline, unsubstituted or substituted on 4-th position of aniline fragment, with maleic anhydride in a solution of acetonitrile, stirring for 20 minutes, then adding pentafluorobenzaldehyde and boiling for 12 hours, then after filtering, washing the crystalline fraction with diethyl ether and air-drying the product, 9-[hydroxy(pentafluorophenyl)methyl]-1H-benzo[f]isoindole-4-carboxylic acid is obtained, unsubstituted or substituted at 4-th position of aniline fragment with methyl, methoxy or ethoxycarbonyl group.

EFFECT: single-step method of producing 9-substituted benzo[f]isoindol-4-one by reacting N-[(2E)-3-phenylprop-2-en-1-yl]anilines with maleic anhydride and pentafluorobenzaldehyde.
