FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to cardiology. Left ventricular volume index, a left ventricular ejection fraction and blood serum growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) are determined. Developed formula is used to calculate the regression equation F. That is followed by calculating a probability of manifested left atrial fibrosis in the patients with atrial fibrillation and preserved left ventricular systolic function P taking into account the calculated value F. If P<0.247, a low probability of manifested left atrial fibrosis is stated, and if P≥0.247 – high probability of manifested fibrosis of the left atrium.

EFFECT: method enables predicting a probability of manifested left atrial fibrosis in the patients with atrial fibrillation, providing a therapeutic strategy, improving selection of the patients for catheter ablation.
