FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemistry and specifically to a method of producing a polyelectrolyte complex for delivering biologically active substances. Proposed method enables to obtain a modified low-molecular alginate with a molecular weight of 70 kDa by controlled dry thermal oxidation of sodium alginate with ozone at temperature of 80 °C for 5-10 minutes and then in an aqueous solution with pH from 2.0 to 5.0, the resulting modified low molecular weight alginate and poly-L-lysine hydrochloride are mixed at ratio of 2:1 or 1:1, respectively.
EFFECT: invention provides controlled reduction of molecular weight of alginate to 70 kDa and formation of a stable and biocompatible polyelectrolyte complex suitable for encapsulation and delivery of biologically active substances.
