FIELD: audio signal processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to processing audio signals and particularly relates to synthesis of spatially extended sound sources (SESS). Disclosed device for synthesizing spatially extended sound source (SESS) comprises: data storage device (200, 2000) for storing one or more elements of rendering data for different limited spatial sectors, wherein the various limited spatial sectors are located in the rendering range for the listener, wherein one or more rendering data elements for the limited spatial sector comprise at least one of a left dispersion data element, a right dispersion data element, and a left-right covariance data element, sectors identification processor (4000) for identification of one or more limited spatial sectors for spatially extended sound source in the range of rendering for the listener on the basis of data of spatially extended sound sources, target data calculation unit (5000) for calculating target rendering data from the stored left variance data, the stored right variance data, or the stored left-right covariance data and audio processor (300, 3000) for processing an audio signal representative of a spatially extended sound source using the rendering target data. Also disclosed is a method realized in disclosed device.
EFFECT: improved concept of reproducing a spatially extended sound source with a possibly complex geometric shape and spatially selective modification of SESS rendering.
