FIELD: passive probing of atmosphere. SUBSTANCE: brightness of object to be observed, for example, cloud or hill, is measured when the object is observed from movable vehicle, for example, from board of flying vehicle, through tested layer of atmosphere along horizontal path. Atmosphere transparence is judged from changes in distances of moving vehicle depending on object under testing in the region of two positions of points of observation. EFFECT: improved precision.
