FIELD: treatment of metals. SUBSTANCE: vacuum furnace has chamber with the multi-layered heat insulating shield. The inner layer of the shield is connected with the negative pole of the power source. The positive pole of the source is connected with the article holder. The inner layer of the heat insulating shield can be either finned or made up as insulated sections. This allows temperature to be controlled at separate parts when long articles are heated. The high- current forced gas discharge is created between the article to be treated and the inner shield.
