FIELD: strengthening of products by thermochemical treatment in vacuum arc discharge. SUBSTANCE: apparatus has cathode 1, anode , product fastening device positioned between cathode and anode and screen for preventing optical visibility between cathode and product and permeable for electric field in space between electrodes, power source 4 , which may be connected by its positive pole through switch to product fastening device or anode. Cathode is made in the form of strip with current supply leads on its ends. Current supply leads are connected through switch 9 with power source. Cathode spot position detectors are located at cathode ends and connected with switch 9 through control unit. Ends of product fastening device holders and anode are provided with current supply leads, which are connected one with the other. Current supply leads of device holders are embraced by solenoid 11 , which generates magnetic field normal with respect to product axis. Invention allows electron flux to scan along product axis and provide uniform heating of product. EFFECT: increased efficiency of apparatus by providing uniform heating of product by electron flux. 3 dwg, 1 tbl
