FIELD: silicon production. SUBSTANCE: in a method of smelting silicon including carbothermic reduction of ground quartzite in three-electrode ore-thermal furnace, improvement consists in periodically (preferably with 1.5-2.0 h intervals) loading into the furnace interelectrode space a mixture containing carbon-containing reducing agents and quartzite at carbon to silica weight ratio (0.5-0.75):1. EFFECT: increased silicon isolation degree.
