FIELD: automatic industry. SUBSTANCE: the basic amount of a liquid metal heat carrier is removed from a trap by forcing it out with an inert gas. The trap is then heated to a temperature higher than the melting point of the heat carrier and is filled with a melt of alkali metal halides. The melt is maintained in the trap for 8-12 hr at 300-500 C. The melt of halides together with the remnants of the liquid metal heat carrier and impurities forces out by said melt are then removed from the trap with an inert gas, the trap is thereafter cooled and washed with steam and water. EFFECT: greater efficiency of the method. 4 cl, 2 tbl
