FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, specifically to continuous purification of liquid sodium, used as a coolant in the primary cooling system of the hollow body of a melting unit. Method comprises purifying liquid sodium in the lower part of the hollow body of a melting unit, where a cleaning device is formed between the outer and inner walls thereof, separated by a horizontal partition from the upper part of the hollow body with the possibility of moving liquid sodium in and out of the device due to sodium convection in the closed space of the hollow body, determining the amount of intake of raw sodium in the device per unit time by selecting the size of the gap between the outer wall of the body and the horizontal partition installed along the perimeter of the body, cooling the sodium supplied to the purification device to precipitation temperature and retention of impurities therein by cooling the outer wall of the body with cold gas passing through a heat exchanger disposed above the hollow body.
EFFECT: invention simplifies purification of liquid sodium, increases the period of continuous operation of the melting unit by increasing the reliability of its operation.
