FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method includes metal supply into crystallizer, pulling of ingot from it with variable speed, supply of slag mixture to metal meniscus in the crystallizer, reciprocal displacement, supporting and direction of ingot by means of idlers and driving rollers, cooling of ingot surface in zone of the second cooling by coolant is to be sprayed by injectors installed between rollers, change of specific consumption of coolant along the zone of the second cooling from maximum value under crysrallizer up to minimum value at the end of cooling zone, defects control of ingot surface and structure after zone of the second cooling. If defects appear in quantity 0.2-10 pcs/m2 of ingot surface along its perimeter and thickness specific consumption of coolant is decreased along the zone length of the second cooling for 5-30% from working value. At appearance of defects more than 10 pcs/m2 pouring process is stopped. EFFECT: improved quality of ingot. 1 tbl
