FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: process includes feeding of metal into crystallizer, extraction of ingot from it with variable velocity, feeding to metal meniscus into crystallizer of slag mixture, setting of crystallizer to reciprocating motion, support and guidance of ingot with the help of dummy and drive rollers, cooling of ingot surface in zone of secondary cooling with coolant sprayed with nozzles mounted between rollers, change of specific flow rate of coolant along zone of secondary cooling from maximum value beneath crystallizer to minimum one in end of cooling zone, detection of flaws of surface and structure of ingots after zone of secondary cooling. With emergence of flaws in amount of 0.2-10 flaws/sq.m of ingot surface over its perimeter and thickness velocity of extraction of ingot is reduced by 2-20% of working magnitude, with emergence of flaws in amount exceeding 10 flaws/sq. m process of casting is stopped.
