FIELD: geophysics. SUBSTANCE: well space is exposed to the action of a neutron stream from a gamma-ray source, measurements are made of gamma-radiation induced by radiation capture of thermal neutrons by hydrogen nuclei in the band of 2.23 Mev. Prior to performing the above operations, the relationship of the parameter to be measured to pocket size is determined, the length of a sonde being increased by given steps. The sonde length is recorded which relates to a linear relationship between the measured parameter and the thickness of a liquid layer in the well. Recording of the working parameter is carried out with the sonde length found; records made are use together with the relationship obtained for determining dimensions of pockets.
