FIELD: nuclear power engineering. SUBSTANCE: control rod has external and internal absorbing components with moderator component inbetween; moderator is of the following group: yttrium hydride, titanium hydride, zirconium hydride. Moderator layer thickness over rod radius is at least 0.5 of fast free path length in moderator. Ratio of volume fractions of materials is delected from condition: external absorber 15-50%, moderator 35-70%, internal absorber 1-25% of total volume fraction of absorber and moderator in rod. Neutron spectrum degradation in moderator component causes increase in neutron capture speed in absorber component. EFFECT: improved efficiency and service life of rod. 1 dwg
