Abstract SU 1556403 A1

FIELD: nuclear power engineering. SUBSTANCE: bottom part of control rod length smaller than 60% of its height along absorber has outer layer of absorber. Inner space of rod accommodates at least one Co-59 base member and at least one member containing metal hydride that weakly absorbs neutrons. Ratio of volume fraction of Co-59 to sum of volume fraction of Co-59 and metal hydride should be between 5 and 65%. Control rod functions to control reactivity and target for producing radioisotope of Co-60. EFFECT: improved economic efficiency of control rod and reactor as a whole due to additional production of radioisotope of Co-60 in it. 1 dwg
