FIELD: quantum electronics; large gas-dynamic laser units burning combustion products with working medium exhausted into atmosphere.
SUBSTANCE: in order to initiate laser, working medium, including fuel, oxidant, and ballast component, is supplied to gas producer. Ballast component and oxidant are preheated in heat exchanger. Working-medium components are mixed up and fuel mixture is ignited. Combustion products are pumped through gas-dynamic channel and exhaust facility. Then supply of working-medium components is shut off. In the process working medium is cooled down in gas-dynamic channel so as to bring its temperature within exhaust facility to value below self-ignition point; working-medium flowrate G is set to meet following relation: G < Vρ/t, where V is exhaust facility volume; ρ is density of cooled-down working medium; t is shutoff time of working-medium components.
EFFECT: enhanced safety of laser initiation.
