FIELD: manufacture and operation of chemical current sources. SUBSTANCE: method comes to filling cells with sulfuric acid electrolyte, impregnating the plate groups, carrying out forming charge and subsequent cycling. Cells are filled with electrolyte, specific gravity lower by 0.075-0.105 0.075-0.105g/cm3 than rated value of specific gravity for this cell. Impregnation is carried out in steps, first till decrease in electrolyte specific gravity in cell by 0.075-0.0125 0.075-0.0125g/cm3, as compared with specific gravity of electrolyte poured into cell, and then it is continued by supplying current equal to 0.75-1.25 A per every 50 Ah of rated cell capacity until specific gravity of electrolyte remains constant. EFFECT: enlarged operating capabilities. 1 tbl
