FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: the method for thermal treatment of aluminium alloys comprises heating to homogenizing temperature, holding and hardening. In order to reduce the duration of the treatment process and to retain mechanical properties, the heating and holding operations are carried out in a medium consisting of a mixture of 40-50% metal oxides, such as Al2O3, Cr2O3 and Fe2O3 and 50-60% aluminium fluoride. The use of the claimed method reduces the treatment time by 4-6 hours to obtain the mechanical properties which are the same as those of alloys treated by the prior art method which is widely employed.
