FIELD: optics. SUBSTANCE: invention deals with registration of optical information, it relates to detectors of UV radiation and may be used in various branches of science and technology for metrology of continuous and pulse UV radiation in wide band of spectrum within large range of powers. Ionizing detector has gas-discharge cell composed of semiconductor plate coming to electric contact with current-carrying wire placed into gas-filled chamber. One of surfaces of plate is fabricated photodetecting. It is proposed to alter configuration of gas-discharge cell so that semiconductor plate should face gas-discharge gap with photodetecting surface, to manufacture electric contact on opposite surface of plate and to produce counter electrode from material transparent for UV radiation. With configuration of cell so changed most important factor limiting sensitivity of semiconductor UV detectors - surface recombination of photoinduced current carriers is removed which leads to increase of sensitivity of detection with proper reduction of registration threshold and expansion of range of registered powers. Additional increase of sensitivity is proposed to be achieved by suppression of losses for reflection as UV-transparent counter electrode is input window of gas-filled chamber.
